Public transportation is experiencing a paradigm shift with the introduction of new technology, the emergence of micromobility and on-demand transportation services, and the influx of private sector transportation companies into the field of public transportation. As a result, some public transportation agencies are evolving and becoming mobility integrators adopting mobility as a service (MaaS) platforms. Such platforms integrate several transportation modes such as microtransit and bike share to provide on-demand transportation options that support their underlying traditional transit bus or rail service. Transit agencies with multimodal transportation systems are now providing unprecedented flexibility and choices for commuters as well as improving access to premium transportation services. This session will bring together experts in the industry to discuss best practices and lessons learned incorporating these new modes with mass transit systems.
