The power of open data: improving experiences for operators and public transport riders

Sharing transit data helps operators and passengers and spur innovation, but data sharing has historically been seen as risky, getting in the way of real change. Now in the UK, with the introduction of the Department for Transport’s Bus Open Data Service, or BODS, all bus operator data will be made public. We’re finally seeing a transparent approach to sharing transport data for the benefit of all.

In this webinar, in collaboration with Intelligent Transport, we discussed the importance of open data, including how Moovit uses it to create a better rider experience, and as a use case, West Yorkshire Combined Authority discussed how open data is already benefiting their local riders.

Key learning points:

  1. What is the UK Bus Open Data Service (BODS) and how will it help data publishers, data consumers, and operators?
  2. What are the current and emerging needs of riders and how can operators use open data meaningfully to benefit users of public transport?
  3. How can sharing transport data change the rider experience now and in the future?
