After bidding farewell to 2021 and looking towards the new year, I am proud to say that the Moovit team continues to meet the pandemic’s challenges. The seeds we have planted this year and in previous years are bearing fruit and it’s all thanks to our dedicated team, partners and customers.
I want to highlight six of Moovit’s extraordinary accomplishments from 2021 that have helped to move the transportation industry forward. In addition to providing essential mobility information to over 1 billion people around the world through the free Moovit app, we:
- Laid an important foundation in our partnership with Mobileye to accelerate the global adoption of autonomous transportation. Pat Gelsinger, CEO of Intel, which acquired Moovit last year, unveiled the Mobileye AV that will be used for future ride-hailing services. The vehicle exhibits our MoovitAV service brand. More recently, Mobileye launched a pilot in Paris allowing employees of Galeries Lafayette to order an AV ride to or from work using the Moovit app for the first time.
- Launched a MaaS app on a national scale across The Netherlands, in partnership with Arriva, a leading provider of passenger transport in Europe, to make transport journeys more convenient. Arriva’s new glimble app, powered by Moovit’s White Label App solution and MaaS API, allows citizens to plan, pay and ride all forms of public and shared transport across the country, and areas of Belgium and Germany.
- Established and deployed several on-demand microtransit partnerships around the world to bring on-demand to millions of people, including two in the UK through our partnerships with Aberdeenshire Council and Scottish Borders Council; three expansions of our on-demand service in Australia in partnership with Ventura and Department of Transport Victoria; one with BusItalia in Salerno, Italy; and one in Israel.
- Announced a partnership with WeWALK, the company behind the award-winning smart cane for the visually impaired. With WeWALK integrating Moovit’s Transit API into its service, public transit is now more accessible for blind and partially sighted people.
- Reached 70% of the market share, after one year, of users using mobility apps in Israel to pay for public transit, and this year we expanded our offering from payment on buses to now include payment in the Israel Railways and the Jerusalem light rail.
- Continued to provide COVID-19 resources and research to keep the industry informed of how mobility is impacted during this time of adversity. It helped transit agencies adapt and be flexible in their strategies to better navigate the pandemic.
Being at the helm of Moovit is a privilege and a great responsibility. I am grateful to all of you — our partners, customers and especially to the Moovit team for ever-evolving with the ups and downs of this year as needs continued to change. I look forward to continuing our work and partnerships together to simplify public transit for all and to build a stronger foundation for opportunities to come in 2022.
