Moovit Launches Moovit+, Details Strategy for Serving 1.5 Billion Users

  • Moovit+ offers a subscription option with exclusive features and no ads
  • Moovit continues to grow organically; tripling annual revenue since 2020

New York, NY – August, 2023

Moovit, creator of the popular urban mobility app, is announcing the launch of Moovit+, a paid-for membership subscription with several new features designed to improve mobility for 1.5 billion Moovit users worldwide. This new freemium model is available today to users in the 3,500 cities across 112 countries where Moovit is available.

The new features in Moovit+ have been driven by the company’s strategic growth plan, which has helped drive increased engagement with mobility users, transit agencies and other key partners worldwide, with revenues tripling since 2020.

“As public transit ridership continues to increase, the use of Moovit to help guide people to their destination is at an all-time high,” said Nir Erez, CEO and co-founder of Moovit. “In recent years, we’ve focused on expanding our portfolio of solutions, creating new and diverse revenue streams alongside constant innovation and improvements.”

Three new exclusive features are launching for Moovit+ subscribers, along with an ad-free app experience, available now:

  • SafeRide: Allows users to share their location, trip’s progress, and ETA with friends and family during their journey, answering the question “where are you now?” with just a tap. Moovit+ members can designate friends or family as Safety Contacts and, when they decide, they can enable SafeRide to notify their Safety Contact about their real-time location.
  • Compare Routes: Moovit+ members can quickly view and compare multiple routes simultaneously displayed on the map to help make the best decisions when journey planning. Users can quickly assess which routes have longer walking segments, pass through more stops, or best meet their needs.
  • Arrival Updates: Allows Moovit+ members to spend less time waiting at their stop, and know in advance if they have time to finish that coffee or need to make a dash for the bus. With Arrival Updates, Moovit+ members will receive notifications about the location of specific lines, and any possible delays.

“We will continue to offer Moovit as a free app to all public transportation users so they can benefit from travel planning, real-time information, as well as accurate and reliable directions,” said Erez. “Now, people who want to upgrade their experience have the option to enjoy exclusive Moovit+ features.”

Moovit’s success in supporting a global mobility ecosystem has been reflected in consumer app usage that continues to grow organically, with average quarterly user figures reaching an all-time high as of Q2 2023. The annual revenue growth since 2020 includes a significant contribution from the growth of Moovit’s consumer app.

During the past three years, Moovit has expanded its portfolio of business verticals, focusing on:

  • The Moovit consumer app: The core Moovit product that connects riders with transit offerings globally, constantly updated with new features.
  • Moovit Ads: The location-based advertising platform launched one year ago, offering advertisers and brands a unique way to reach transit riders.
  • Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) solutions for transit agencies and authorities, governments and municipalities, and companies.
  • APIs and transit data: Giants such as Uber utilize Moovit’s Transit APIs to power Uber Transit, and Apple uses Moovit’s APIs to power transit data in Apple Maps
  • MoovitAV: The technology that will connect autonomous vehicle services with riders to enable safe, seamless trips powered by groundbreaking technology.
