Why Choose Moovit’s Low Carbon Commute Program

The Moovit Low Carbon Commute Project, powered by Greenlines’ Mobility Carbon Engine (MCE™), offers a high-integrity, user-driven solution that addresses a pressing global need: reducing emissions in urban transportation to help cities and governments meet ambitious climate goals.

By choosing Moovit’s project, you’re investing in a solution that overcomes the pitfalls of traditional carbon credits while directly transforming urban mobility, in addition to efforts by cities and governments to meet climate goals, and accelerating the global transition to a low-carbon future.

Addressing a Critical Need for Urban Climate Goals

Eighty percent of U.S. cities have committed to carbon neutrality by 2050 under the U.S. Conference of Mayors Climate Protection Agreement. Yet, urban transportation accounts for 29% of U.S. greenhouse gas emissions*, and up to 40% in dense cities like New York or Los Angeles**.

Moovit’s project directly supports cities by incentivizing low-carbon travel and, in addition to government efforts to achieve climate targets, also reduces urban congestion and pollution.

Overcoming Additionality Concerns with Proven Impact

Moovit’s decarbonization project (Project ID 7539-7421) proves additionality through a CSA CleanProjects® barriers analysis, demonstrating that reductions occur only because of user behavior changes incentivized by Moovit’s app (e.g., switching from driving to public transit). These reductions are verified by Green Sky Sustainability, ensuring they are real and directly attributable to the project.

Unparalleled Transparency and Accuracy

Transparency remains a challenge in the carbon credits market. Moovit’s decarbonization project aims to set a new standard for transparency and accuracy. All project users’ data is collected and processed in real time by Moovit’s app using Greenlines’ patented digital MRV (Measuring, Reporting and Verification) process, which is integrated into Moovit’s servers. GPS-verified trip data is tracked in real time and reductions are recalculated upon trip completion based on actual distances traveled and modes used, providing real-time visibility into impacts—unlike projects relying on annual estimates.

The Moovit Low Carbon Commute Project has been validated by GHD Inc. in 2025, is registered under the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) CleanProjects® Registry, and complies with ISO14065-2.
