Searching for lines and stops just got easier, as Carris Metropolitana chooses Moovit to provide up-to-date data for passengers to plan their trip
Lisbon – September, 2022
Today, Transportes Metropolitanos de Lisboa (TML) announced Moovit, an Intel company and creator of the popular urban mobility app, as an Official Mobility Partner. Now, riders of Carris Metropolitana have access to the most up-to-date and reliable urban mobility information in one app to plan their trip around the Lisbon metropolitan area.
Just in time before school begins, Moovit’s iOS, Android, and Web app are available for free to the almost 3 million residents that live in and travel within the Lisbon metropolitan area. Moovit combines official information from Carris Metropolitana as well as crowdsourced information to calculate the best route for each journey with urban mobility options such as bus, train, metro, ferry, bike, scooter, and ride-hailing.
The Carris Metropolitana operation officially launched in June, and currently serves the 9 municipalities that compose the south bank of the Lisbon metropolitan area.
“In January 2023 this number will rise to 18, as the operation expands to the north bank, turning this into the largest road operation in Portugal,” said Rui Lopo, Board Member of TML.
This new partnership brings easy to use information to the 18 municipalities of the metropolitan area of Lisbon and to the approximately 80 thousand daily users. Today, Moovit has integrated 260 Carris Metropolitana bus lines and 4,290 bus stops into the app, with more to come as the network expands its service.
Passengers are now able to discover the most up-to-date information to plan their journey.
Moovit users have the most updated schedule information so they know when their bus, metro, boat or train is arriving, a Live Directions feature with Get Off alerts to provide step-by-step guidance for the entire journey, and Service Alerts so they can avoid disruptions on usual lines and plan their journey accordingly. They can also benefit from a smart, tailor-made mobility experience with new features that predict what travel information and route is most vital to a user at any given time, as soon as they open the app.
TML is working to provide all the information necessary for the proper functioning of Carris Metropolitana, and the partnership with Moovit is a step in the way of disseminating information to passengers on a multi-platform basis. The information from Carris Metropolitana must reach all passengers in the Lisbon metropolitan area, and in the near future they should be able to choose the applications that best serve their needs, said Faustino Gomes, President of TML.
In honor of the partnership, Moovit’s VP Marketing made a special trip to Portugal to mark the signing of the partnership with Carris Metropolitana.
“As Moovit expands its coverage in the Portuguese market, we look forward to a long-lasting relationship with Carris Metropolitana,” said Yovav Meydad, Moovit’s VP Marketing. “Our shared mission is to improve urban mobility for all and reduce congestion, and we are excited to extend our service to even more people.”
