Moovit Launches Moovit+ Subscription for a First Class App Experience

Moovit’s new freemium model offers a subscription option with exclusive features and no ads

New York, NY – August, 2023

Moovit, creator of the popular urban mobility app, is announcing the launch of Moovit+, a paid-for membership subscription with access to premium features and removes ads. This new freemium model is available today to users in all 3,500 cities across 112 countries where Moovit is available.

Moovit, popular with public and shared transit riders, guides people in getting around town effectively and conveniently using any mode of public and shared transport. The app includes a multi-modal trip planner, real-time arrival information, guided step-by-step directions, service alerts, and more.

With the new Moovit+ subscription option, members receive an ad-free experience and access to exclusive features. Moovit+ also boasts a new branded color scheme, with Moovit+ screens easily identifiable via a purple color. Moovit is celebrating the Moovit+ launch with three new exclusive features: SafeRide, Compare Routes, and Arrival Updates.

SafeRide

SafeRide allows users to share their location, trip’s progress, and ETA with friends and family during their journey, answering the question “where are you now?” with just a tap. Moovit+ members can designate friends or family as Safety Contacts and, when they decide, they can enable SafeRide to notify their Safety Contact about their real-time location. Safety Contacts can view when the rider boards a line, transfers between lines, and estimated time of arrival, and do not need to have Moovit installed on their phone. Moovit+ users can stop sharing this information at any time, and can easily edit, add, or remove Safety Contacts.

Compare Routes

Moovit+ members can quickly view and compare multiple routes simultaneously displayed on the map to help make the best decisions when journey planning. Users can compare routes to quickly assess which ones have longer walking segments, pass through more stops, etc.

On the Suggested Routes screen, Moovit+ members can tap on the blue “Compare” button to pull up a map displaying all Suggested Routes in various colors. Each route shows the walking legs of the journey, pick up, transfer, and drop off stations, as well as the vehicles’ route. Users can swipe through route detail cards on the screen to view the details of each route that is displayed.

Arrival Updates

Moovit+ members can now spend less time waiting at their stop, and know in advance if they have time to finish up that coffee or need to make a dash for the bus. With Arrival Updates, Moovit+ members can tap the doorbell icon, accessible from multiple screens in the Moovit app, and be notified where their line is:

  • 10 minutes prior to it arriving at the departing station
  • 5 minutes prior (line is about to arrive)
  • At arrival (vehicle arrived at the departing station)
  • When there are sudden, unexpected time changes to the route

“As transit ridership continues to increase, Moovit’s app usage is at an all time high,” said Yovav Meydad, Moovit’s Chief Growth and Marketing Officer. “Moovit offers important features for transit riders including trip planning, up-to-date accurate, reliable transit information and guidance, and more. We intend to keep providing Moovit as free to use for the more than 1.5 billion Moovit users. Now, for people looking to upgrade to an ad-free app experience and want to benefit from features such as sharing your live location or visually comparing routes on the map, we’ve got them covered, too.”

Moovit’s core features, such as trip planning, real-time information for lines, service alerts, and personalized travel suggestions will remain free for everyone.
