In a social distancing world, public transportation has a number of challenges to overcome in order to ensure safe rides for their passengers as well as keep transit employees protected. One of the biggest hurdles to overcome is how to handle payments safely. Paper tickets and the process of buying and selling them – cash handling and waiting in line, to name a few – are just too risky in the current environment and make it difficult to stay resilient in the face of COVID-19.
Today is especially exciting because Moovit, along with Fare-Payments-as-a-Service leader Masabi, and NEOride, a government partnership dedicated to driving the development of regional transportation, are enabling safer, faster rides on 13 transit agency lines. Now, riders on EZfare transit agencies throughout Ohio and Northern Kentucky will be able to plan, pay, and ride seamlessly and safely using only the Moovit app for their entire journey.
This new innovative feature will allow riders to see the total cost of their trip in advance when riding on EZfare agency lines, purchase their ticket, and validate rides with a unique QR code, a digital bus ticket that eliminates unnecessary contact and saves time for rushed passengers. The new COVID-safe way to pay for urban mobility around town is now offered to riders of 13 transit agencies in Ohio and Northern Kentucky, using Masabi’s Justride payments platform within the Moovit app.
With Moovit’s mission to simplify urban mobility, we’re thrilled to partner with Masabi and NEORide and offer next-generation Mobility as a Service experiences that keep riders safe and make riding public transportation user-friendly and frictionless.
