New on Moovit — Polotsk & Novopolotsk, Belarus

Published: July 29, 2016

Moovit is delighted to add another metro to the app in Belarus — both Polotsk (Polatsk) and Novopolatsk (Navapolatsk).

Founded in 862, Polotsk is the oldest town in Belarus, and one of the oldest in the whole Slavic region. Due to the rich history, and the old-style beauty of this town, it’s a popular tourist area for the country.

It is recognized as one of the most beautiful towns in Belarus, particularly due to its location on the River Western Dvina, which is an ideal spot to take a walk and take in the stunning scenery.

Other Attractions

With Moovit, you can now easily visit some of the city’s main attractions using public transit, including the  Cathedral of Saint Sophia, which is a rival for cathedrals of the same name in Kiev and Novgorod, as well as other historical buildings, such as:

  • Boris’ Stone
  • Red Bridge over the river Polota
  • Museum of Belarusian Typography
  • Museum of Regional History and Culture
  • Saint Ephrosinia Convent
  • Epiphany Monastery
  • Monument to the 23 Guardsmen

Novopolotsk, meaning “New Polotsk” is located close to its namesake town, however differs in both the level of history, and tourism after being founded in 1958. However, with Moovit now in the city, we are proud to be able to help people from its 100k population benefit from a smoother journey on public transport.

Plan your trip now.
