Moovit Offers DriveNow Car Sharing Service for Londoners

Published: February 3, 2016

Moovit now offers Londoners the best multimodal experience thanks to a new partnership with DriveNow by BMW. Fully integrated into the app, the car sharing feature now offers you even more ways to get around your city. Whether you don’t want to wait for the bus or train to arrive, want to listen to your music without needing headphones, or just want to get where you’re going on your own terms, the DriveNow integration in Moovit has you covered. Check out the FAQ below for more information and to start driving.

What is DriveNow?

DriveNow is a free-floating carsharing joint venture of the BMW Group and Sixt SE. It’s available in various European cities and offers a range of high-quality premium vehicles of the BMW and MINI brands to rent.

How does it work?

First, install the DriveNow app and register for the service. After you’ve registered, locate your preferred pick-up spot on the Moovit map. You’ll see a number of available cars nearby noted with the DriveNow icon. Tap the icon and review the car details, then tap Reserve and start your trip.

How many cars are available?

DriveNow currently has 290 cars in their London fleet. You can choose from a BMW 1 Series, BMW i3 or MINI Countryman, depending on availability near your destination. Bonus: the BMW i3 is purely electric so you can feel good about your carbon footprint as you drive.

How much does it cost?

There is a one-time registration fee of £29, but no on-going subscription costs. You can rent a car by the minute for as little or as long as you like, with a standard fee of 39 p/min. Fuel costs, parking, insurance and car tax are all included, so there are no hidden fees. DriveNow offers additional savings programs and hourly packages that offer a further reduction of raters per minute if you use DriveNow frequently. And if you need to fill up, there’s a fuel card in the drawer inside the car.

What about insurance?

All new drivers must be over the age of 23 with a full driving license for a minimum of two years. Potential users are then screened with DVLA to check for previous driving offenses. If you pass those three criteria, then you’re instantly eligible to drive under the included insurance policy agreement.

Where do I return the car?

Whenever you’re done with your trip, you can park your car in almost any public parking space in the business area (which currently covers the boroughs of Hackney, Islington, Haringey and the southern part of Waltham Forest); every car is equipped with a parking permit. You’re not limited by designated DriveNow parking bays, so you can enjoy complete flexibility when you no longer need the car.

Happy driving!
