Looking Forward to 2023: A Message from Our CEO

Published: January 9, 2023

Many of you already know the story of Moovit’s origins — founded in 2012 to mind the gap in disjointed public transportation information and simplify urban mobility around the world. We put much of our time and energy into getting the company off the ground, quickly locking in four rounds of funding totaling over $130 million, and eventually got acquired by Intel for almost $1 billion in 2020.

This year, we celebrated our 10th anniversary as part of the Mobileye family, and as the saying goes “sometimes to move forward, you have to look back”, and what better time to do that than during the holiday season and setting goals for the new year?

In 2022, we saw the end of lockdowns, additional COVID variants, public transportation ridership growing close to pre-pandemic levels, and the ability to move around and connect with each other once again. We were finally able to meet colleagues, partners, and customers — old and new.

We were able to accomplish significant achievements this year. We:

  • Partnered with Marubeni and Ishikari City in Japan to deploy an on-demand transit service with an accompanying app to make getting to/from Ishikari Bay New Port Area and traveling within the city center more efficient
  • Deployed new on-demand transportation services in the US and UK, in partnership with Wave Transit in North Carolina, NORTA in New Orleans, Essex County Council in the UK. We also expanded our FlexiRide partnership in Australia to cover new service areas
  • Launched a location-based ad platform for digital advertisers looking to connect with transit riders, already used by leading brands such as Coca-Cola, KFC, Burger King, Bank Hapoalim (Israel’s largest bank), and more
  • Partnered with Beep, provider of autonomous mobility services, to offer locals in Lake Nona, Florida the ability to hail AV shuttles on-demand. It quickly expanded to Beep’s offering in Peachtree Corners, Georgia
  • Offered locals and visitors of Tampa the ability to plan multimodal journeys and pay for HART rides, thanks to our partnership with City of Tampa
  • Unveiled several new Moovit app features to make getting around easier than ever, including personalized suggestions about what travel information is most vital to a Moovit user at any given time, and Live Locations of public transportation vehicles
  • Released the 2022 Global Transit Report with fascinating insights about public transport usage statistics and analysis in nearly 100 cities across the world.
  • And last, but not least, Moovit recently joined the Mobileye family and began trading as a public company to accelerate the global adoption of autonomous transportation

Wrapping up our 10th year, I’m proud to say that all of this truly could not have been possible without our dedicated team, our committed partners and valued customers. As we look toward the next 10 years, I’m confident that we will continue to grow our businesses, our user base, and expand Moovit’s offering and mission of simplifying urban mobility into more areas of the world.

Cheers to 2023!
